The Member Delegates, esteemed guests and the Executive Board of the European Junior Doctors Association gathered in Lisbon on 30-31st of May, 2025, for General Assembly Spring Meeting 2025, marking another milestone in a collective journey toward better working conditions and training environments for junior doctors across Europe.

One of the key highlights was the welcoming of a new member - a most prominent organization from Switzerland that represents junior doctors - Verband Schweizerischer Assistenz- und Oberärztinnen und -ärzte (Association suisse des médecins-assistant(e)s et chef(fe)s de clinique, Associazione svizzera dei medici assistenti e capiclinica) - as a new full member of EJD. This important step reinforces our shared commitment to pan-European advocacy and collaboration. For more information about our new members, click here: https://vsao.ch/

Also, during the General Assembly, the Board shared the preliminary results of the EJD Working Hours Survey. These early insights reflect the real-life challenges junior doctors face daily, and we look forward to publishing the full results later this year.

The General Assembly also elected 13 new representatives to the Boards, Sections, and Multidisciplinary Joint Committees of the European Union of Medical Specialists. We thank all applicants - your engagement shapes the future of medical training and professional standards across Europe.

We proudly adopted three new policy documents that will be shared shortly:

  • Postgraduate Training: an updated position on medical education, advocating for competency-based learning, fair assessments, and recognition of the impact night shifts have on both training and well-being.

  • Workforce-led Optimisation in Healthcare: a policy focused on reducing administrative burdens, safeguarding clinicians’ time for patient care, and encouraging data-informed workforce planning.

  • Gender Equality in Healthcare: a renewed commitment to inclusion and equity, calling for safer environments for all gender identities and addressing everyday bias in healthcare settings.

Additionally, two new EJD statements - on Evidence Based Medicine and on Healthcare Resilience as a Vital Strategic Component of European Security and Defense - were approved and will be shared publicly soon.

We sincerely thank our hosts in Lisbon, the Ordem dos Médicos, the organizing committee of the event and all the collaborators from the Conselho Nacional do Médico Interno (CNIM), for their efficient, caring, and highly professional coordination of the event. Their attention to detail, responsiveness, and warm hospitality created the conditions for an exceptionally smooth and productive meeting.

We also thank every delegate who made this meeting a success. With each gathering, we take concrete steps toward building a stronger, fairer future for junior doctors in Europe.
